The kit comprises of an “Overhead Reel Hanger” and a “Rod Tip Hanger”. The overhead reel hanger utilises the harness lugs on your overhead reel. The rod tip hanger is universal and works with any fishing rod. As overhead reels come in different shapes and size the overhead reel hanger is fishing reel specific.
The overhead reel hanger has built-in spring loaded pins. Push them all the way in so the body will fit snugly between the harness lugs. Release the pins and they poke through the harness lugs making for a very secure connection. Do the same in reverse to remove your fishing reel.
The overhead reel hanger is 88 mm wide. The distance between the two countersunk holes is 75 mm. The fishing reel spacing is 61.5 mm The fishing reel spacing represents the distance between the harness lugs on your fishing reel.
The rod tip hanger has an overall width of 73 mm, the distance between the two countersunk holes is 60 mm. Check out the photo below which includes the above measurements.
Mounting the Lee’s Rod & Reel Hanger – Tiagra 30 is very easy. First, pick a location such as a wall. Next, work out how far apart you want the overhead reel hanger and rod tip hanger. Drill four holes, two of them will be 60 mm apart and the other two will be 75 mm apart. Secure both hangers using self-tapping screws or something similar. The most important consideration when selecting the right fixing hardware is they must be a countersunk screw.
Whilst the Lee’s Rod & Reel Hanger – Tiagra 30 was made specifically for the Shimano Tiagra 30 it can be used on other overhead reels as long as the distance between the harness lugs is approx 61.5 mm. With this product, your overhead reel can afford to be slightly smaller, what you don’t want is an overhead reel with a harness lug spacing of greater than 61.5 mm
